Accessibility Plan for Employment

1. Introduction 

Zimmer Air Services is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and accessible workplace. This Accessibility Plan outlines the measures we will take to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to employment for persons with disabilities in both fleet and office settings, in accordance with the Accessible Canada Act and associated regulations. 

2. Objectives 

  • Ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to employment opportunities. 
  • Remove and prevent barriers to recruitment, retention, advancement, and accommodation. 
  • Promote an inclusive culture that respects the dignity and contributions of all employees. 

3. Definitions 

Barrier: Anything that hinders the full and equal participation in society of persons with disabilities. 

Disability: As defined in the ACA, includes any physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication, or sensory impairment. 

Accommodation: Adjustments or modifications to policies, practices, or work environments that enable persons with disabilities to participate fully. 

4. Areas of Focus 

4.1 Recruitment and Hiring 

  • Job postings are written in plain language and available in accessible formats upon request. 
  • Online application systems are accessible, supporting screen readers and keyboard navigation. 
  • Job advertisements explicitly state our commitment to accessibility and encourage applicants with disabilities to apply. 
  • Interview locations (including virtual formats) are accessible. 
  • Accommodation needs are addressed throughout the hiring process. 

 

4.2 Workplace Accessibility (Office & Fleet) 

Office Positions: 

  • Ensure all workspaces are physically accessible, including accessible doorways, office spaces and washrooms. 
  • Ergonomic equipment and assistive technologies are available on request to support individual needs  
  • Flexible work arrangements and remote work options are offered where feasible. 

Fleet Positions: 

  • Assess vehicle accessibility and modify where required, such as adaptive driving controls, are made as needed  
  • Ensure rest areas meet accessibility standards. 
  • Provide personal protective equipment in accessible formats and designs. 

 

4.3 Retention, Development, and Advancement 

  • Individual accommodation plans are developed collaboratively and reviewed regularly by Human Resources and the Joint Health and Safety Committee. 
  • Performance management processes are adapted for accessibility (e.g., alternative evaluation formats). 
  • Training and professional development opportunities are made accessible. 
  • Career advancement pathways are open and inclusive of people with disabilities. 

 

4.4 Training and Awareness 

  • All employees, including management, receive training on: 
  • Accessibility and inclusion 
  • Duty to accommodate 
  • Disability awareness 
  • Human Resources and hiring managers receive additional training on inclusive recruitment practices. 

 

4.5 Workplace Policies and Procedures 

  • Regularly review policies to ensure they do not create barriers. 
  • Include accessibility considerations in workplace health and safety plans. 
  • Implement a confidential process for employees to request accommodation or report barriers. 

5. Consultation 

Consult employees with disabilities and/or outside parties that identify with disabilities during the development and review of this plan. Ensure that the lived experience of persons with disabilities informs decision-making.

Feedback can be submitted anonymously, if preferred. All feedback will be reviewed and responded to in a timely and respectful manner. 

7. Monitoring and Reporting 

Progress on accessibility initiatives will be reviewed annually.
Updates to this plan will be published at least annually.
Annual progress reports will be made available in accessible formats upon request.
